AIF Assists Victims of the Fire Disaster In Orange Farm
05 May 20111. 30 April 2011: AIF arrives on the scene and conducts an assessment. Shacks have been ravaged to the ground by the fire. AIF assists with building materials to rebuild the shacks. Food hampers are also distributed to the victims of the fire disaster. Members of SANCO were also present to thank AIF for its generous support and assistance. 2. 5 May 2011: AIF members visit victims of the fire in Orange Farm to make sure that all their needs are taken care of. AIF also inspects the progress of the rebuilding of shacks.
Orange Farm is a township located approximately 45 km from Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa. It is the largest informal settlement in South Africa, with most estimates giving a population of 1 million people. Most people live in Shacks. The streets are full of dongas and when it rains the streets become muddy making ii impossible for cars to pass. Many of the inhabitants of Orange Farm are poor and impoverished.
