Ward 30 Isipingo
11 Oct 2017Al-Imdaad Foundation teams assessed the damage at Transnet Settlement in Isipingo Ward 90 this morning where up to 410 people were affected by the storm. Later on the teams returned to distribute mattresses and blankets at the Isipingo Transit camp for displaced families.
Magaliesberg Hall
11 Oct 2017Al-Imdaad Foundation teams in Gauteng continued their relief efforts for victims of the freak storm with distributions for families from Orient Hills in Magaliesberg who lost shacks and belongings in the flooding. The families have been temporarily put up at the Magaliesberg Hall.
Distributions in Umlazi
10 Oct 2017Al-Imdaad Foundation teams were on the ground in Umlazi this morning to distribute mattresses for up to 100 displaced victims of yesterday's freak storm which affected the area badly. #DurbanStorm

Al-Imdaad visits bereaved familiies
10 Oct 2017Al-Imdaad Foundation teams were part of a delegation visiting families who had lost love ones as a result of yesterday's storm in the Durban area. In Umlazi C-Section, the team visited family members of a mother and daughter who had been crushed under a collapsed wall at the Prince Mshiyeni Hospital during the storm. Family members of a toddler who had been washed away by strong floodwaters were also visited. The delegation offered comfort to the bereaved and the Al-Imdaad Foundation distributed food parcels to the affected families.
Teams monitor Durban storm
09 Oct 2017Al-Imdaad Foundation's KZN teams are on standby following a freak storm that has been making its way up the eThekwini Coast. Reports are coming in of collapsed walls, uprooted trees, electricity cuts and flooding road networks including on the N2 Highway. The teams are monitoring the situation and preparing to respond to possible needs in affected areas.

Emergency Distributions for displaced victims
09 Oct 2017In the aftermath of the storm Al-Imdaad Foundation teams in Durban loaded mattresses for immediate distribution to victims in Bluff, Montclair and Umlazi. The teams were busy late into the night distributing mattresses in affected areas.
Gauteng teams conduct assessment
08 Oct 2017Al-Imdaad Foundation teams in Gauteng are on the ground after freak hailstorms earlier this evening affected several areas especially in Ekurhuleni Municipality. Together with Local Disaster Management, the Al-Imdaad Foundation teams are assessing the situation to determine the most appropriate interventions. Further updates to follow.
Gauteng teams attend JOC Meetings
08 Oct 2017After yesterday's freak storm in Gauteng, Al-Imdaad Foundation team members in the province attended last night's JOC meeting in Krugersdorp and will be attending the follow-up meeting this morning. Initial assessments indicate that 104 people have been displaced in Mogale City with up to 20 informal shelters destroyed. At least 46 people in Alexandra township were also affected and 150 in the Putfontein/Benoni area.
The week starting Monday 9th October 2017, was a busy one in disaster relief for Al-Imdaad Foundation teams in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. Freak weather storms had battered Gauteng on Monday before moving over coastal KwaZulu-Natal by Tuesday morning.
In Gauteng, roofs were blown off malls, scores were displaced and widespread flooding and hail damage was reported, with the worst affected areas in Ekurhuleni Metro and Mogale City. Al-Imdaad Foundation teams were quick to respond in coordination with Disaster Management Authorities.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Tuesday, October 10th, brought chaos and devastation across the South Coast and greater Durban area. Large numbers were displaced by flooding in Umlazi, Isipingo and Montclair, whole highways were brought to a standstill and gale force winds wrought destruction on hospitals, homes and other buildings. Up to eight hospitals reported damage and eight deaths were reported as a result of the freak weather.
Al-Imdaad Foundation teams actively responded to the situation with distributions of emergency relief items including hygiene packs, mattresses and blankets for displaced families.
