AIF has conducted distribution drives in the following areas during 2010: GAUTENG - 1000 blankets were distributed to the aged and people with disabilities in the Rabie Ridge informal settlement in Midrand on May 14. - AIF distributed blankets, hats and gloves to the underprivileged in Vlakfontein and Vosloorus on June 15 and 16. - AIF handed out blankets to 2000 families in the impoverished areas of Lehae, Vlakfontein and Orange Farm during July. - 150 blankets were given to victims of the Alexandra township fire that broke out in June. - Warm hats and gloves were distributed to HIV positive inpatients at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital in June. LADYSMITH - On 26 June, AIF in partnership with the Nambithi municipality distributed 500 blankets to poor and elderly residents in St. Chads, Peters, eZakheni and Valisha townships. - AIF and the KZN MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs Nomusa Dube handed out 450 hats and gloves to children from orphanages and rural areas in Ladysmith and surrounding areas on June 30. ESTCOURT - 250 blankets were distributed to refugees in June. DURBAN - AIF in partnership with the Minara Chamber of Commerce conducted a winter warmth distribution drive in 4 areas in Durban on June 29. 800 blankets and 400 hats and gloves in total were distributed to the underprivileged in Chesterville, the Burnville informal settlement, the Phoenix Care Foundation and the Kennedy Road informal settlement. CAPE TOWN - During 9 – 12 July, the AIF conducted winter warmth projects in Cape Town. Areas identified for blanket distribution drives were Mitchell’s Plain, Delft, Tafelsig, Newfields, Gugulethu, and Manenberg. AIF distributed 2500 blankets in partnerhsip with the Muslim Judicial Council and the Minara Chamber of Commerce.
