Handover Event for the Imbabazane House
29 Jul 2015The handover event drew officials, community members and representatives of the Al-Imdaad Foundation ground team together. Local Municipality Mayor Cllr PG Strydom welcomed the guests and addresses followed by the district Mayor, Cllr MA DCP Mazibuko and Al-Imdaad representatives. An emotional address from the beneficiaries also followed which brought tears to the eyes of the congregation. Later the house was handed over and the ceremonial ribbon was cut by the Al-Imdaad Foundation ground team ushering in a new phase of life for the seven members of the Khumalo family. A phase that would be markedly more comfortable than the years they had spent in their old mud hut.
The Khumalo family is a child headed household from the Ezinyosini area in Imbabazane Municipality in Northern KwaZulu- Natal. The family consists of 7 children whose parents have passed away a few years previously. The family had been identified as early as 2009 and were earmarked by the department of social development for the construction of a new home. The Al-Imdaad Foundation was requested to come on board the project after initial building commitments were delayed. Since 2012 the Al-Imaad Foundation has been assisting the family with essential apparel and household items to alleviate the difficulty of their condition. In 2015 the new home was completed and the family could finally move out of the cramped and dilapidated mud home that was their only shelter for so long.
