21 Apr 2013On Sunday, 21 April 2013, the Al-Imdaad Foundation received information from MEC P Majodina that parts of the Eastern Cape were experiencing floods with Umtata, Port St Johns and Idutywa being the worst hit. Responding to the MEC’s request for blankets, members of Al-Imdaad accompanied the executive mayor of OR Tambo district as well as senior leaders of the Department of Social Development to the Umtata Civic Centre where a distribution was set to take place. Acting upon the advice of the Executive Mayor and Councillor of the area, 100 blankets and 150 hats were distributed to the elderly citizens taking shelter in the centre. The Al-Imdaad Foundation where then requested by Mr Soldaati, Disaster Manager of OR TAMBO District, to conduct a distribution in Umtata and together with the MEC of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon M Qhoboshiane, 160 blankets and over 300 warm hats and gloves were distributed to those affected. Shortly after this distribution, The Al-Imdaad Team travelled to another flooded area in Umtata, Slovo Park, where 100 blankets and 144 Hats and gloves were distributed.
