Mosenthal Thunderstorm Disaster


Mosenthal is a poor and impoverished area on the outskirts of Rustenburg in the North West province of South Africa. On the 6th September 2012, a thunderstorm struck the region. The Mosenthal Thunderstorm Disaster wreaked havoc and left 89 learners injured, 2 learners and educators seriously injured and 68 houses damaged including 20 shacks which were completely destroyed. Al-Imdaad which enjoys a close relationship with Disaster Management departments across the country, responded immediately. A team of humanitarian practitioners headed by Qari Ziyaad Patel from its Gauteng office visited the area and conducted an assessment and chalked out a plan of humanitarian action for those affected.
