" Community members of different areas are in deep distress as many people do not know where they will be sleeping tomorrow, because many shacks and poorly built RDP houses have been washed away completely."

Food Parcels Distributed to Bay Flood Victims 16 June 2011 Thousands of people were left stranded, with only the clothes that they had on – after the more than 140mm rain fell in the Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and surrounding areas, washing away and stranding the homes of many local residents. Many of the flood victims received relief from Uitenhage based Afri-Save Cash & Carry who, together with the Al-Imdaad Foundation under the management of Mr Qari Ziyaad Patel, distributed over 350 food parcels and blankets to the affected victims. Each of the food parcels that were distributed contained items to the value of R300. The food parcels were distributed amongst people who were seeking shelter in the different community halls that opened their doors for victims in areas like Missionvale, Greenbushes and Motherwell and many other surrounding affected areas. “At Afri-Save Cash & Carry we believe it is the responsibility of business’ in the community to assist members when disasters of these kind hit, we should be there to assist, because after all it is the members of the community that make it possible for all organisations to be able to do business and to provide a service”, said Mr Munir Jeeva, Director of Afri-Save Cash & Carry. Community members of different areas are in deep distress as many people do not know where they will be sleeping tomorrow, because many shacks and poorly built RDP houses have been washed away completely. Even though the rain brought many disastrous elements, it is hoped that the heavy water restrictions will eased soon as many of our dams have filled up to a 100% water level. This will bring relief to the many farmers that provide jobs to thousands of people.
