Al-Imdaad Foundation
20 Jul 2020

This year, in the face of numerous challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever that we take the legacy of our great humanitarian leader, Tata Mandela, to heart.

Mandela told us that, “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one's time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return.” He reminded us that, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” He also said, that “as long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest”. The Al-Imdaad Foundation strives to take these messages to heart, which is why on the occasion of Mandela Day 2020 our team were actively serving needy communities for 67 minutes, and beyond. In partnership with fellow NGOs Spiritual Chords and Muslims for Humanity, as well as the KZN International Business Forum and various business representatives, Al-Imdaad Foundation assisted needy families in the Welbedacht area of Chatsworth, Durban. Distributions included blankets, warm hats, hygiene kits, walking sticks for the elderly, food parcels and PPE’s such as facemasks and face shields. On the other side of the country, the Al-Imdaad Foundation’s office in Cape Town was active in the Khayelitsha and Bonteheuwel townships in partnership with Disabled Persons South Africa (DPSA) and the Al-Asad Charitable Foundation. The team distributed food hampers, blankets, and warm hats to members of the disabled community in these areas. As we move past Mandela Day into the rest of the year, the Al-Imdaad Foundation encourages all to continue to uphold the values we learn from this occasion: giving without expectation, making a difference for others, keeping up the struggle against poverty, inequality, and injustice.
