"Whilst heart wrenching images surfaced, AIF worked hard behind the scenes with its partners in the region to assist those affected by this disaster. The team comprising members from our UK offices, as well as the media, is now heading to the city of Van to oversee on-going distributions of humanitarian aid," Patel stated.

Following two powerful earthquakes that struck the eastern city of Van in Turkey last month, the Al Imdaad Foundation (AIF) who was among to first to led assistance, is now sending a team from its offices in the United Kingdom to oversee the on-going distributions of humanitarian aid. This comes after another earthquake of 4.4 magnitude hit southeastern Turkey on Tuesday. According to the Kandilli Observatory, there were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries. The quake struck at 1546 GMT in Cukurca town of Hakkari province, near the Iraqi border, it said. Turkey is crossed by several fault lines. A powerful quake shook eastern Turkey on October 23, killing more than 600 people. It was followed on November 12 by a 5.6 magnitude tremor that killed another 40 people in the same area. In 1999, two strong quakes in heavily populated and industrialised parts of northwest Turkey left some 20,000 people dead. "Initially, Turkish authorities had managed to deal with the situation, but after the second earthquake, they began accepting foreign aid," AIF spokesperson, Qari Ziyaad Patel reported. Due to the second earthquake, most of the residents of the region have been left homeless. AIF and its global offices sprang into action and began the facilitation of humanitarian aid and has also planned a tent city for the homeless victims.
