East London – Help is being provided to more than 50 families left homeless after a hailstorm in the Eastern Cape that killed one woman.

More than 200 homes in the Alfred Nzo District Municpality were getting hot meals, food parcels, blankets, mattresses and materials to partially repair the damage, spokesperson Nadbuko Masumpa said on Friday. The heavy hailstorm on Wednesday killed Anna Sokoyi, 81. She was trying to get out of the storm and into a house in Nqalweni village when a wall fell on her. The Al-Imdaad Foundation had provided more than 500 blankets and food parcels. The hailstorm has caused damage to infrastructure such as electricity lines and schools. Alfred Nzo municipality mayor, Eunice Diko, would lead the convoy of relief material that was expected to arrive in Nqalweni village, near Mount Frere, later on Friday. (Courtesy of News 24)
