The Al-Imdaad Foundation successfully delivered the AIF Vlakfontein Early Childhood Development Centre

The Al-Imdaad Foundation successfully delivered the AIF Vlakfontein Early Childhood Development Centre to the community of Vlakfontein in Gauteng at an official ceremony held at the new facility this weekend. This project is a beneficiary of The Oasis Crescent Fund Trust which contributed R1.3 million towards the centre. The Trust is administered by Oasis Group Holdings on behalf of thousands of investors who donate the interest and non-permissible income earned on their socially responsible investments to various charities through The Oasis Crescent Trust Fund. Present at the openign were the Chairman of the Oasis Crescent Fund Trust, Shaheen Ebrahim as well as COSATU Secretary General Zwelinzima Vavi who was the guest of honour. While addressing the guests at the event, Ebrahim thanked the Foundation for their hard work and also celebrated the local community's acquisition of this much needed resource. "This project will honour the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day and we are very proud of the work of the Al-Imdaad Foundation and the gift that they have given to the children of Vlakfontein by providing them with a safe place of learning. Education is a key priority for this country and as a result a key focus area for the Oasis Crescent Fund Trust," he said. "In 2008, the Foundation was approached by the City of Johannesburg to fund a new crèche in Vlakfontein, one of Johannesburg's poorest townships that is crippled by a high unemployment rate and a lack of community facilities. Building commenced in 2008 and the ECD became operational last year. The 380m² building houses 4 classrooms, an office, kitchen, bathrooms and a sick room. It currently caters for 120 underprivileged children," Qari Ziyaad Patel of Al Imdaad explained.
